Kid-Jitsu® is up and running…….now what?
The popularity of the Kid-Jitsu® Program within the traditional martial arts setting has caused Charles dos Anjos and me to take a seriouslook at working more with the adult population in the traditional martial arts schools. The kids are “getting it” and the Instructors and their adult students now want it in the same safe, effective and efficient environment.
The need for an Adult Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Program:
In all of our Certification Boot Camps, I have answered literally the same 5 questions time and time again:
- Question 1: How do I progress in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu?
- Question 2: How do I get promoted in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu?
- Question 3: How do I teach the adults if I am not “belted” myself?
- Question 4: Who can promote my adult students?
- Question 5: What does a child turns 16 since they have“grown out of” the Kid-Jitsu® program.
Charles and I worked long and hard to come up with an effective solution and we decided upon an Adult Program that is called the Wolfpack Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Association.
The Wolfpack BJJ Association
The Wolfpack BJJ Association is a means by which we are able to offer Gracie Jiu-Jitsu to our Certified Kid-Jitsu® Instructors and to their adult students.
The Wolfpack BJJ Association has identified and addressed the questions and problems that were associated with not having an Adult Program in place.
The five questions answered:
Question 1: How do I progress in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu?
The Kid-Jitsu® Instructors have had access and gone through the Certification Boot Camp. This has given them the opportunity to get a good handle on the fundamentals of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu and also the opportunity to study the Instuctors Manuals and the corresponding DVD's. It has also given Charles and me time to get to know the Instructors and their particular jiu-jitsu game and the mix of students and their needs in their particular school.
The Wolfpack BJJ Association was designed for the Instructors who wish to continue their BJJ training and also promote their own Adult students. Periodic seminars and private lessons at your site and/or trips back to Florida will allow you to continue your personal journey in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu.
Question 2: How do I get promoted in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu?
Charles dos Anjos and Larry Shealy will promote the Instructors in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu based on the IBJJF Guidelines.
Question 3: How do I teach the adults if I am not “belted” myself?
You attain your certification as a Kid-Jitsu® Instructor and then work toward being belted through the Wolfpack BJJ Association.
Question 4: Who will promote my adult students?
You will! You will be able to promote your students up to the fourth stripe on the belt just below you. For example, if you are blue belt, you will be able to promote a student up to a 4 stripe white belt. To promote a student to blue belt, you would need to be a purple belt. If you have a student who is ready for blue belt, but you are not a purple belt Charles and/or Larry will promote them on your behalf.
Question 5: What does a child turns 16 since they have “grown out of” our Kid-Jitsu® program.
This was yet another reason we created the Wolfpack BJJ Association. If would be a shame for a child to get a minimum of 3 years solid training in BJJ and then need to change schools because we didn’t do our homework and have a legitimate Adult BJJ System in place. If a child is 16 and has 4 stripes on their green belt they are ready to test for their blue belt.
It just makes sense!
After having the Kid-Jitsu® introduced into your school, it just makes sense to have an Adult program as well.
The benefits of having this program are many. The answers to the top 5 questions above are good reasons, but there are a few more that you may wish to think about:
Can I gain more adult students and or revenue? Yes!
- You can gain students by signing up the parents who are already bringing their kids to your school.
- You can gain revenue from BJJ as an add-on to the adult programs you have at your school
- You can promote your school as adding a Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Program to your school
- You can gain Kid-Jitsu students from the adults who are already in your classes.
- You can increase your revenues with the Kid-Jitsu Program as an add-on to your current programs
- You can use Kid-Jitsu as a Leadership Team program
- By ad ding a solid and legitimate ground curriculum
- By adding a program for kids and adults
